Taking control of the digital shopping experience
In the last ten years, ecommerce sales as a percentage of total retail sales have grown steadily. By 2019, ecommerce totalled nineteen percent of all retail sales. Fast forward to the 2020 pandemic, and ecommerce jumped to over thirty percent of total retail sales in Q2.
With the forced closure of all nonessential retail stores as part of strict lockdown measures, consumers have been forced to change their buying habits. Three months of flocking online to purchase anything that they couldn’t buy in-store, UK consumers new found intent to shop digitally has risen both in the immediate term and for the future.
Looking to reach their customer where they are and recognising the accelerated digital shift, brands and retailers have raced to enhance their digital offering.
