Jan Gooding is known to be one of the UK’s most outspoken marketing leaders on a range of subjects from building global brands to inclusive leadership.
She has enjoyed a successful marketing career during which time she has worked with blue chip corporates such as BT, British Gas, Diageo and Unilever and, most latterly, as the Group Brand Director at Aviva. Aviva was struggling to establish itself as a global brand. Armed with a budget of c£400m covering Canada, Ireland, UK, Poland, France and Singapore she developed Aviva’s first global marketing function. Jan subsequently worked with the Marketing Directors across the group to unify the brand strategy under the idea of ‘Good Thinking’.
In her final role at Aviva as their first Global Inclusion Director, she was responsible for introducing the ground-breaking policy of equal parental leave. Contrary to all expectations, it has been taken up by 60% of fathers using an average of 21 weeks leave and is helping to transform the attitude to working parents.
She is currently the Chair of LGBT equality charity Stonewall which reaches and supports LGBT activists in over 70 countries worldwide. When she took over the helm Stonewall was focussed on equality based on people’s sexual orientation and did not actively campaign on gender identity issues. Under her leadership Stonewall extended it remit to campaign for trans equality in 2015.
